Lottie’s style varies from day to day
Lottie Ryan shares her style secrets as she prepares to MC Summer Blowout, the national leaving cert festival. The line-up for the one-day festival includes Alexandra Burke, NDubz and Alex Gaudino.
The daughter of the late Gerry Ryan, Lottie is excited about her first big move into presenting.
As fashion has become such a big part of the festival experience, Lottie shares her style favourites and inspirations with us.
What way would you describe your own style?I would describe my style as completely all over the place! Sometimes I’ll want to be the bohemian hippie and wear things that are completely floral and flowy and other days I’ll feel a little tougher and go for clothes that are harder and maybe more rocker chic.
Beginning a new career where looking good in the limelight is pretty important, what would be 3 wardrobe staples for yourself?Hmm, one thing I can’t live without at the moment in my closet would probably be my Current/Elliott jeans – they’re slouchy and they’re all distressed and they’re just fun! Something else would be my JJ Winters suede bag – it has that hobo shape but it’s covered in zippers so that makes it look edgy, plus the neutral brown color goes with everything. My third staple would probably be a pair of classic Ray-Ban Aviators – I’m not one for over-the-top sunglasses. These are laid-back and stylish.
What is the most important aspect to an outfit for you, does it have to be a statement garment or accessories or just the way you combine pieces?I think it can depend what mood you’re in, whether it’s a statement garment or a combination of pieces you always look best when you’re confident and that comes from feeling comfortable. Personally, I love layering jewellery – I’m always covered in necklaces and rings!
Now that your media career is taking off and you will be in the public eye a bit more, do you think you will change much about your own personal style? When I was younger I wasn’t into fashion or taking big risks. Then I started paying attention to Nicole Richie and Mary-Kate Olsen and all their different looks. That inspired me. And also you learn about your body; it takes awhile to know what looks good on you.
Do you think start expressing themselves more with their clothes once they move from school to college?I think as you get older you get more confident so people may start trying out new things and being more adventurous with fashion. When you’re in school sometimes you want to fit in with your friends and groups of girls will all dress in different versions of the same thing, when you get to college I think you get the chance to be more of an individual and discover your own personal style.
In terms of the way you dress, do you feel it has changed considerably since you were in your final year of school?Definitely! I think I’m a lot more confident now and comfortable in my own skin. My style has evolved into something I’m proud of. Of course, I’m still changing and my style will too. That’s the fun of fashion!
Who would be a style icon for you at the moment? When it comes to fashion I think that I am a very free thinker. There are a few people like Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen or Nicole Richie who I admire but when it comes to what I want to look like I think I have a very clear vision. I just love taking risks; it’s a lot of fun.
